2022 Honda Odyssey: Next-Gen Honda Odyssey Redesign Looks Like
2022 Honda Odyssey Here it is Honda’s fifth-generation Odyssey that has been running in Australian showrooms for nearly six years, but when will the brand confirm a new-man drive?
A new report from the Japanese publication Best Car Web suggests that the next-generation Odyssey may be in jeopardy as sales shrink and consumer preference shifts to SUVs.
According to Best Car Web, another Odyssey update will roll out later this year, which will serve as a litmus test to see if Honda will build someone else’s drive.
Since its launch in early 2014, the Odyssey has undergone a facelift in 2017 to keep styling and equipment fresh
In Australia so far this year, Honda has sold 384 of its Odyssey, down 16.7 percent over the same period in 2019, but still 17.4 percent of the mainstream society-driven market.
Kia’s Carnival, which launched in its current generation form in early 2015, is the market leader with 1,212 new registrations year over year, accounting for a significant 54.8 percent.
A new generation of the carnival is also in the works, which will be announced later this year and has already caught trials in Australia, and could get a four-seat option for the high-end executive market.
Honda Australia also recently announced it would switch to an agency sales model and significantly reduce its dealer footprint and halve its sales volume by the end of 2021.
Although Honda also announced the discontinuation of the Jazz light car at the same time, it reaffirmed its commitment to sell the Odyssey alongside the Civic, HR-V, CR-V, and Accord.
2022 Honda Odyssey Redesign
The new Odyssey 2021 front features LED headlamps that look like those of the Civic and Accord, along with a revamped grille and a distinct lower fascia. There’s added chrome and gloss black trim, and the 19-inch wheels of the Elite model have a different design.
From reliable sources, the 2022 Honda Odyssey has a revised all-black grille with a slimmer chrome strip at the top which replaces the thick chrome design that cuts off the center of the grille on the outer model.
The front bumper is wider and slimmer and is flanked by standard LED headlamps. The rear now has subtle black trim elements under the windows and all-red taillights.
This year’s updated Odyssey will reportedly sport a revised front fascia with LED headlamps, receive increased equipment levels (such as hands-free, motion-operated doors), and more safety features.
2022 Honda Odyssey Interior
The interior features several updates aimed at increasing versatility. The second-row seats now fold almost flat to create more usable space.
When combined with Honda’s Magic Slide feature which allows the second-row seats to move sideways, there’s better rear access and more loading flexibility.
Small but important details include new grocery bag hooks on the back of the third-row seats and improved cable management for the console.
The EX and higher trim get new seating designs and floorboards, and the EX-L and higher have contrast stitching in all three rows of leather seats and standard power lumbar adjustments for the front passenger.
The top two trims, Touring and Elite, look classy with piano black trim on the dashboard, doors and front door handles. Touring gets 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels for the first time.
The high-end Elite offers luxurious touches, including perforated leather for the first and second-row seats, exclusive dashboard trim with deep metallic finishes, new 19-inch alloy wheels designed with shark gray paint, and engineered, and side mirrors that dim automatically.
Changes to the interior aim to make the Odyssey’s higher trim levels feel more luxurious. The top Elite model, for example, gets custom leather upholstery with contrast piping and stitching, while other models get enhancements such as a tricolor floor mat, piano black trim, and revised climate control.
Honda also says that the second-row seats fold differently to make them easier to remove. The base trim of the LX gets the same driver assistance features that were previously standard on all other models, and a new rear-seat alert system is available.
2022 Honda Odyssey Technology
For the 2022 Honda Odyssey, Honda Sensing’s suite of advanced driver-assisted safety technologies is standard in all areas. (The previous Honda Sensing was only included on the EX trim and above.)
More specifically, Honda Sensing’s suite of safety technologies now includes a more improved adaptive cruise control that operates at low speeds and will stop and go in slow-moving traffic. Pedestrian detection systems are also more sophisticated.
The new standard Rear Seat Reminder System provides audible alerts and an on-screen warning message asking the driver to check the rear seat area while exiting.
The CabinWatch rearview system on the Touring and Elite can be integrated into the alarm to display the rear passenger area on the infotainment screen.
The EX and higher trim add an updated, easier-to-use interface to the Honda Cabin Control app, which allows rear-seat passengers to interact with the navigation and audio systems as well as climate control and the Wayback entertainment system.
The Touring Trim has an additional USB plug in the third row bringing the total number of USBs to five.
2022 Honda Odyssey Engine
In the engine section of 2022, Honda Odyssey making under-the-hood changes is meaningless as Honda’s 280 horsepower V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission return as a single powertrain. Just like the previous model, it can achieve an EPA estimate of 19 mpg in city driving, 28 mpg on the highway, and a combined 22 mpg.
The new Powering 2022 Honda Odyssey Hybrid will be a carryover engine, including the 129kW / 225Nm 2.4-liter petrol engine and, in overseas markets, the 2.0-liter petrol-electric hybrid used with the Accord sedan.
The Honda Odyssey 2021 continues to be powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 280 horsepower, along with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission. However, unlike the Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna, which both now offer an all-wheel drive, the Odyssey remains front-wheel-only.
2022 Honda Odyssey Price and Release Date
Although Honda sells the Odyssey hybrid in Japan, the automaker has yet to reveal plans to do so in the US market.
In contrast, the All-New Toyota Sienna, another strong contender in the minivan segment, will be offered only as a hybrid model for the 2022 model year. Toyota expects the powertrain to produce 243 horsepower and a combined 33 mpg.
The base LX’s starting price is $ 32,910, up to $ 1,000 from the MSRP for the 2020 Odyssey LX. EX starts at $ 36,310, an increase of $ 400; and the XL-L rang at $ 39,580, an increase of $ 400.
Touring is $ 43,620, significantly $ 2,560 less than the previous model year, and the only trim that has dropped. The top shelf Elite slide is just under the $ 50,000 mark at $ 48,940 which represents a $ 400 increase.
All prices are inclusive of the factory shipping fee of $ 1120. Premium Platinum White Pearl, Deep Scarlet Pearl, Pacific Pewter Metallic, and Forest Mist Metallic exterior is available for an additional $ 395.
In consideration, Honda has given the Odyssey minivan an exciting update for the 2021 model year to compete with the likes of the new Chrysler Pacifica and the redesigned Toyota Sienna.
It will start at $ 32,910 for the base LX model and go up to $ 48,940 for the loaded Elite model, which has a nicer interior and unique 19-inch wheels.
Go up to the Odyssey EX, which now has rearranged seats and tricolor floorboards, and the starting price goes up to $ 36,310. The EX-L, which starts at $ 39,580, adds contrast stitching to the seats and power lumbar support for the front passenger seat.
Touring and Elite models, which start at $ 43,620 for the former and $ 48,940 for the latter, get these extras as well, along with new black trim on the dashboard, doors, and front door handles.
