2024 Honda Pilot Eyed As Rival To Redesigned Chevy Traverse. GM Authority spy photographers have captured a prototype to test the next-generation 2024 Honda Pilot crossover on public roads, giving us an early overview of this future Chevy Traverse rival.
Judging by this prototype, the 2024 Honda Pilot seems to be quite far in development, with this particular test vehicle looking like production-ready LED headlights, as well as a production-ready grille.
The tight camouflage does a decent job of covering some body lines, but we can safely say that the next generation Pilot will remain faithful to the current model with a silhouette that looks very similar.
The front end looks a little harder, but it gives this crossover a bolder look thanks to its large, upright grille and flat hood. The rear has a little more camouflage, with the vinyl wrap completely hiding the vehicle’s taillights, although a sporty-looking hatch spoiler is present.
2024 Honda Pilot Review
The next-generation Honda Pilot will take advantage of the Unibody Global Light Truck platform from the Japanese car manufacturer that currently serves the Acura MDX.
It’s unclear if it will stick with the current model’s 280-horsepower 3.5L V6 engine, or if it will move to another, more efficient Honda powertrain.
It appears the Japanese automaker could offer a plug-in hybrid model in addition to the regular petrol model, which could potentially use the same 2.0-liter engine and dual-motor setup as the current Honda Accord Hybrid.
We’re also expecting an overhauled interior with new infotainment and a digital dashboard display, along with the new Honda Sensing active safety features.
Honda sold 23,989 Pilots in the first quarter of this year. This puts the Pilot just ahead of the Chevy Traverse in the main three-row crossover segment in terms of market share, which resulted in sales of 23,464 units over the same time period.
Toyota Highlander leads the segment by a wide margin, generating sales of 66,026 units in Q1 this year for a 25 percent market share.

2024 Honda Pilot Redesign
Honda has a new set of products launched in the next year or two, including the recently peeped 2024 Accord.
That list also includes the 2024 Honda Pilot, which will undergo a redesign for the first time since 2016, though the crossover received a reinvigoration in 2019.
Now, Ford Authority spies have seen the 2024 Honda Pilot prototype go around, giving us a great look. what can we expect from its rival Ford Explorer, which happens to look like the same Blue Oval crossover?
At least, that’s true on the front, which has a large oval-shaped grille flanked by sleek headlights, similar to the current-generation Explorer and perhaps even more similar to the recently updated Chinese version.
To be fair, it’s a fairly conventional look that many vehicles have these days, especially in the hot world of crossovers and SUVs.
In addition, the 2024 Honda Pilot is also expected to take inspiration from the Passport and Ridgeline in terms of updated styling, providing a more square and upright look that has been trending these days.
Similarly, the next-generation Pilot is also expected to move from the current platform – which is used in conjunction with the Odyssey minivan – to a fairly new foundation that is in the Acura MDX.
In the first quarter of 2022, Pilot trailed the Explorer in terms of sales, as Honda sold only 23,989 units – good for a nine percent share of the three-lane crossover segment in the U.S. – while Ford moved 42,736 Explorers, which had a 16 percent market share.
However, both crossovers follow in the footsteps of the Toyota Highlander which leads the segment and holds a 25 percent market share after enjoying sales of 66,026 units in Q1.
Currently, the Explorer 2023 order bank is scheduled to open on August 11, 2022, while production is scheduled to begin at the Chicago Assembly plant on November 7, 2022, the Ford Authority reported earlier this month.
It is currently unclear whether the North American version of 2023 Explorer will receive any kind of refresh, but it may be due to the latest updates applied to the Chinese version.
2024 Honda Pilot Electric
Kia has almost launched an electric SUV with a rough look and a third-row seat, and the prototype has been seen.
The vehicle is a production version of the EV9 concept unveiled at the 2021 Los Angeles auto show, and its shape is similar to the striking car design at that exhibition.
The redesigned Honda pilot will be unveiled later this year, and Honda has confirmed there will be a formidable version of the TrailSport. The fourth-generation pilot is expected to share the platform with the redesigned 2022 Acura MDX and pack the power of the V-6.
Audi’s largest SUV at the moment is the mid-size Q7, which measures nearly 200 inches. However, the automaker is reportedly preparing a full-size offering that will likely be named Q9.
You’ll find these stories and more in today’s automotive news, here at the Motor Authority.
2024 Honda Pilot Specs
The new pilot will continue to be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine. However, we have been told that the new engine will be available at some point in the future.
Our fingers were crossed for hybrids. Everything new under the hood will be significant as every Honda Pilot SUV has been powered by a naturally aspirated V6 since its launch in 2003.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
We don’t have details yet on what’s under the new Pilot’s hood, but we did get a chance to sample a prototype of the most powerful Trailsport model on a real-world off-road track near Breckenridge, Colorado.
The Trailsport proved itself capable of tackling the pretty tough terrain we encountered, but Honda admits they haven’t created the rock-crawling super engine meant to tackle Moab alongside the Broncos, Wranglers, and 4Runners.
The Trailsport Pilot features a custom suspension with a 1.0-inch lift, steel skid plates, all-terrain tires, a downhill control system, and an all-wheel drive system specially tuned for Trail driving mode.
2024 Honda Pilot Release Date
The next-generation Honda Pilot 2024 is expected to debut sometime later this year or early 2023.
2024 Honda Pilot Price
We expect the new Honda Pilot 2024 to have a starting price of around $39,000. While details are scarce about the next-gen Pilot, it promises to be bigger (at least inside) and come with more standard and available features than the already well-equipped iteration.
At the top of the range, a 2024 Pilot in the high-end Touring or Elite trim will likely cost around $45,000 and $51,000, respectively.
