2022 Honda Civic Type R last year, we learned that Honda would complete the production of the Honda Civic hatchback in England in 2021, and production would move to North America for the next generation.
This means that we may only be a few years away from the new models being revealed. It seems increasingly possible now that the 2022 generation Honda Civic Type R has been captured by one of our spy photographers.
It maintains several Type R basics of the current model. It has a very wide bodywork, black mesh grille, aggressive front fascia, and of course a giant rear wing. But there are some big changes too.
2022 Honda Civic Type R Redesign
On the other hand, Honda engineers are testing the next generation of the Civic Type R. Cars are now favorites here at the Motor Authority, so engineers have a solid foundation for preparing redesigned models.
The current generation of Civic arrives for the 2016 model and brings with it a new platform that is likely to be upgraded for the redesigned Civic which is expected to be introduced next year as a 2022 model.
Given the advanced stages of the Civic Type R prototype, the hot hatch must arrive next to the regular model.
The proportion of the new Civic Type R looks similar to the current generation, although the shape like the current car slice seems to have softened for the new one.
The rear wing also looks smaller, giving the car a more mature look.
New lights on both ends and there is a hole in the center of the rear fascia that is likely to be fitted to the exhaust tip, like in today’s cars.
The single exhaust tip seen on this prototype is only a temporary unit.
We also look inside. Both the steering wheel and dashboard design are new, with designers choosing separate screens mounted at the top of the middle stack for infotainment instead of integrated units as in the current generation.
The body looks lower and longer. The hatch has softer offspring to a fat deck and loses a split rear window. All of these gestures give a bit of a coupe-like appearance.
The surface of the car is also cleaner, and the rear bumper looks pretty much without fake ventilation, although there are provisions for the middle exhaust tip.
Back to the front, the headlights look lower and don’t sweep back, but they still have an LED arrangement similar to today’s cars.
We also get a glimpse of the interior. Now there is a screen sticking out of the dashboard. It doesn’t look integrated with the car now.
If that means we finally get newer and better infotainment from Honda like that on the Accord, it will be in vain.
Also, there are still volume buttons, and they look bigger than they are on the current model. We can also see the trademark red chairs produce returns.
Looking closely, it seems that Type R will continue to be the front-wheel drive. We can see a little rear suspension and the mounting point, and we don’t see evidence or rear drive axle.
2022 Honda Civic Type R Engine
The muffler also seems to flow to the middle, where the rear driveshaft must be traversed. Although we cannot see the actual width of the tire, this car’s tire looks wider than the 245-mm tire on the 2020 car.
We hope the car will continue to be turbocharged, but it is difficult to say with certainty whether to use the latest version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, or a completely new design and displacement.
With the current production of the Honda Civic Hatchback in England in 2021, we would expect the next generation of cars to be displayed at the same time, then the 2022 model year.
Further supporting this timeline is that the current generation of Civic will be five years old, which has been introduced for the 2016 model. That will make it one of the older cars in this segment, and it’s ready to be replaced.
It is unclear what mechanical mod is planned, but we can expect the current 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 version to be placed under the hood of this prototype, perhaps with more than 306 horsepower at present and 295 pound-feet of torque.
The 6-speed manual and front-wheel drive are likely to become standard on the new Civic Type R, and some form of electrification is also possible.
2022 Honda Civic Type R Price and Release Date
Discussing the prices so far we have not yet obtained official information on what will be offered for the 2022 Honda Civic, but last year the price reached $ 37,950, including $ 955 for the purpose.
Once again the car is expected to be offered in the Civic hatchback body style only. This time, the production of the Civic hatch will move from its current home in the UK to North America, which means the next Civic Type R will almost certainly be sourced locally. The Steps are scheduled for 2022 Honda Civic Type R.
