The tenth Generation Honda Civic was released in 2016, only five years after the previous generation was introduced. Along with the standard Model, Honda also redesigned the iconic Si version, so far the coverage fit for the US market. But while the hatchback has been relegated due to Honda it finally brought the type R to North America, the sedan if it continues to sit on the top of the civic Range and act as the sole competitor of Honda for the likes of the Subaru WRX.
Like its predecessor, for the new Civic Si sedan is a slightly reinforced version of the four-door standard. There are more sporting features on the outside, some exclusive items and extra standard equipment inside, and a more powerful engine under the hood. The latter is completely new and not a massive improvement over the outgoing unit, but now motivates a lighter, stiffer car. Find out how it stacks against the competition in my review below.
2019 Honda Civic SI Specifications
When Honda revealed the exit of the 2018 Civic if sedan and coupe, the world was a little confused. The car was no more powerful than the 2015 Civic Si with “Just” 205 hp. and its torque rating of 192 lbs-ft was only somewhat better than that car. Equally surprising was the fact that both numbers were well below the 306-horsepower type R. However, according to Honda Davis Adams representative, there are reasons for Honda to take this path.
On the one hand, going with a high-performance 1.5-litre engine was a matter of affordability and that the team developed the car. Although it may have been possible to detune a type R 2.0-Liter engine, the cost would have been still high to use the engine, even in the form of low output. Honda wanted to keep the price tag affordable. In addition, SI, an American car, was developed by the American Honda team with sedan and standard coupe, which are designed primarily for the USA. The Japanese team managed the hatchback and the type R, and decided to get-IR they would focus on the 2.0-Liter Turbo engine. Adams told us the team in Ohio working in the sedan and coupe spent most of his time with the 1.5-liter engine, and he knew they could get more of it. The result is the engine you know now, and the power comes mainly from a different Turbo map and more increase pressure. Inmates are indeed the same as in other Turbo civics.

Like the coupe Civic Si, the sedan is a sportier version of the Standard Model. This is more apparent in advance, where the element of the chrome wing between the headlights was replaced by a black gloss part with the red “Si” badging. Then the bumper had larger side shots and a redesigned ventilation center, all of them with honeycomb-like grills, also finished in black.
Honda left the profile of the car unchanged, which is not bad news given that the standard Civic is quite sporty and muscular, but 18-inch alloy rims, 10 spokes with the exclusive two-tone finish set the separate. More changes can be found around the back, where the decklid spoiler with LED brake light is the first new feature that catches the eye. The aerodynamic element is backed by a more aggressive bumper with larger side vents (with false grids, unfortunately) and a chromed exhaust pipe mounted in the center.
Overall the if is not exactly menacing to look at but that bridges the gap between the standard model and the type R pretty well. Since the sedan does not have an R-type version yet, the four-door SI is in fact a fresh addition to the new civic alignment.
2019 Honda Civic SI Interior
The sporting theme continues inside the cabin, where the standard front seats have been replaced by Si-exclusive units, reinforced with red seams. The latter is wiped in the door panels, the steering wheel, and the leather shift boot to add a touch of color to the dark interior in another way. There is also red LED TFT meter and audio system lighting, and a carbon dry metal Trim panel. The unique look is rounded off by the aluminum sport pedals.
When it comes to the convenience features, the if built around the ex-T trim, which includes the electronic parking brake, closing door, automatic dual zone climate control, heated front seats, and windshield wiper Rain detection. The driver has access to the audio and HVAC system through the seven-inch touchscreen on the center stack, which also includes Apple’s display, auto Android, and voice-controlled search capabilities. The 450-watt, 10-speaker audio system with SiriusXM radio, HD Radio, and Pandora is also standard.
Like the outside, the interior has enough features to make the If stand out, but I have to admit that the reinforced seats, sports are a great addition to a sedan that is not available with the type R package.

The Civic if it gets its juice from one of the engines offered in the standard model, but very similar to its predecessor, the new sedan gets more verve. Specifically, while the Civic base uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 158 horsepower and 138 lbs of feet and the more expensive versions come with the new, turbocharged, 1.5-liter four-pot with 174 horses and 162 lbs of feet, the SI It comes with a more powerful version of the latter. Tuned to deliver 205 horses and 192 pounds of feet, he adds 31 horses and 30 pounds of feet to the ex-T, ex-L, and the touring ornaments. That’s a considerable improvement and more than enough to make it an attractive choice.
On the other hand, the new generation of SI is not significantly more powerful than its predecessor, bringing only four extra horsepower and 22 extra pounds of spin to the table. However, there is some good news, as the new Civic Platform is lighter and stiffer, which translates into better performance. The 1.5-Liter four-banger also offers lower 1,300 rpm maximum horsepower in the Rev range, while the maximum torque comes 2,300 earlier rpm.

Routing all that energy to the front wheels is a six-speed manual transmission, which is excellent news for old school drivers who like to paddle their own gears.

With Honda’s tradition of waiting until the fourth year of a model for an important upgrade, we expect Honda’s mainstream Civic to perform largely unchanged for model year 2018.
