The tailgate is especially useful, as it folds down like a typical tailgate, or swings out and sideways if you need to reach further into the bed.
What’s not to like? Well, the Ridgeline’s starting price was high at around $38,000.
All trims are equipped with Honda Sensing’s full suite of active safety features, along with comfort and touch technologies such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote start, keyless entry, and tri-zone climate control.

But Ridgeline could be wider. The Maverick is built on the same unibody platform as the Ford Escape, a compact SUV. The Honda Ridgeline 2023 switches to the Honda Pilot platform, which is a midsize SUV.
We know the goal of compact trucks is to be smaller. This allows them to more easily maneuver in tight city areas. But it can also limit space for cargo and passengers. Plus, the Ridgeline is quite agile and easy to navigate through tight spots.
Alongside the Honda Ridgeline Hybrid 2023, we can see the Honda Ridgeline Type R. This is a model built for sportier performance with 19-inch alloy wheels, a black grille, and red accents.

You can’t upgrade trucks for racing without increasing engine power. That’s why the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Type R can get more power. Rumors suggest that it will use the same 3.5-liter V6 engine it currently has, only that it will be re-tuned.
This engine produces 280-hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Exact numbers haven’t been released yet, but it could pump out 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.
According to Edmunds, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. It’s fast for medium trucks but a little lacking for racers.
This increased amount of power can help the Ridgeline pull over 5,000 lbs as well. All-wheel-drive could be standard, but it’s no surprise to see a rear-wheel-drive variant for sportier performance.
Also, a VTEX system and a direct injection fuel system will be available.
We’re still waiting to learn more, but the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Type R is expected to start at around $50,000. This would make the Type R more expensive than the Honda Ridgeline Black Edition, which is currently the top trim level.
But the interior and exterior upgrades will be worth it. The sporty steering wheel, leather seats, Type R badge, and contrast stitching will make everything stand out.
The layout will remain close to the current setup but could include more advanced, driver-focused technology.
Additional standard features may include a larger tachometer. Plus, a new clutch pedal and gearbox could be available.
This makes us wonder if a manual transmission is in the works. At least, paddle shifters are to be expected.

This truck already has one of the smoothest and sportiest rides ever, so the addition of racing would be a big help.

2023 Honda Ridgeline Trailsport

Honda can make this claim because the Ridgeline is built more like a car than like a traditional truck. It uses the same unibody construction style as most sedans and crossovers.
It still manages a 1580 pound payload capacity which allows it to work like any other midsize truck. But that’s all with a more comfortable road trip. It also sacrifices some off-road capability to get there.

2023 Honda Ridgeline Specs
Honda should continue to offer the 2023 Ridgeline with a single powertrain. A 3.5-liter V6 is expected to be standard, sending power through a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive shall be standard.
The Ridgeline is currently one of the few pickup trucks in its class to come with a long list of standard safety features.
Honda offers the current model with forwarding collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane guard assistance, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control as standard.
Optional features include rear traffic warning, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors. Ridgeline 2023 should be available with the same safety features.
In crash testing, NHTSA gave the Ridgeline 2022 an overall five-star safety rating. The pickup truck failed to earn any of the IIHS awards, earned an “Acceptable” rating in a small front overlap test for the passenger side, and was equipped with “Marginal” headlights.
We could see Honda updating the headlights for 2023, but the ratings will likely stay the same for 2023.

Of course, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Jeep Gladiator can be taken anywhere, but—like most other mid-sizes—the rear seat space and ride quality can’t match the Honda.
With its compliant V-6 powertrain and standard all-wheel drive, it moves with purpose, and its independent rear suspension provides quiet handling. Consider a lot of Ridgeline’s standard driver assistance and comfortable, quiet interior and you’ve got a desirable and useful truck.
2023 Honda Ridgeline Interior
The interior of the Ridgeline is top of the line in terms of practicality and comfort. Like most other midsize pickups, the Honda features a hard plastic under the dash level.
Otherwise, the ingredients are above average. Rear seat passengers will enjoy the most space of all mid-range rivals. The folding armrests on the two front seats are a welcome addition, especially since the center console sits between the two.
The Honda pickup has only one-bed length, 5.3 feet, which aligns with competitors’ short beds and has the second-lowest volume at 34 cubic feet. The antidote to this disparity is its lockable, weather-resistant in-bed luggage with a capacity of 7.3 cubic feet.
There’s one more advantage: with 50.0 inches of space between the bed wheels, the Ridgeline is the only mid-size pickup that can fit four-by-eight-foot sheets of construction material on the floor of the bed. Smart features continue inside.
The rear seat splits 60/40 and, when turned over, provides room for a full-size bike. Unfortunately, loading large items may be difficult, as the back door doesn’t open very wide.
Each Ridgeline comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It now features physical volume buttons and screen icons that Honda says are easier to use than their predecessors.
However, we haven’t had a chance to test these claims ourselves or the updated Display Audio system. The Ridgeline also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Additionally, select models can be equipped with an in-bed audio system that can liven up any tailgate party. Using a vibrating actuator, it turns the cargo bed into a large speaker.

So far the only powertrain is a 280-hp 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 262 pound-feet of torque and is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
The engine feels smooth, and the throttle response is very receptive when you ask for hard acceleration. An unusual pickup in many ways, the Ridgeline surprises from behind the wheel.
On the road, it’s polite and feels very competent. Its independent coil-sprung rear suspension contributes to a car-like ride quality not available with the leaf-sprung, solid-axle arrangement used by the competition.
The body is slim at minimal angles, and the small bumps are barely noticeable. Electrically assisted steering feels just right.
The Ridgeline’s braking performance stands out as its only dynamic flaw. Its braking distance from 70 mph to zero in on the long side.
2023 Honda Ridgeline Price
We expect the base 2023 Honda Ridgeline to have a starting price of around $38,000.
This is a big step up from its competitors such as the Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and GMC Canyon.
Even more expensive than basic versions of full-size trucks like the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevrolet Silverado.
On the plus side, choosing many of these rival trucks with the same level of features found on the entry-level Ridgeline – including Honda’s long list of safety gear – helps narrow the gap.
At the upper end of the Ridgeline range, you can expect to pay around $45,000.
For this cash outlay, Honda’s versatile pickup gets additional features like in-bed audio speakers, heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless smartphone charging pad, automatic headlights, and two USB ports for the second row.
2023 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid Release Date
Based on the Honda 2022 model year, we expect the 2023 Honda Ridgeline to arrive in the fall of 2022.
Without major changes, the price for the Honda Ridgeline 2023 should remain close to the current model on sale. Prices for the current model range from $38,865 (with a goal) to $46,295.
