Honda’s 10th generation Civic was a great success, with the car even among the prestigious 2016 North American Car of the Year award. But the show is not over yet, as Honda is planning a different, much more practical bodystyle for the area. We’re talking about the new bourgeois tailgate, which is set to join his sedan and coupe counterparts early next year.
This week’s 2016 Geneva Motor show, Honda is previewing the vehicle with a thinly veiled concept version. The concept, called “Prototype” by Honda, shows the exterior design of the five-door hatchback, albeit in a somewhat athletic form. Honda says this design maximizes interior space and also reflects the sporty and captivating drive that enables the new Civic Platform. But beyond the athletic proportions, it is possible to pair the various elements of design such as the aggressive front bumper, center-mounted exhaust peaks and oversized wheels reflecting the look for the new generation of civic Type R-the One that will be sold in the United States.

Few have craved depending on a Honda civic for its styling, but the latest lineup at least deserves a second look. That said, we like the way the sedan wears its elongated tail more than the truncated look of the civic hatch. And as for the sport model-specific body kit? It looks like a ground-effect package that would have been advertised in the back of a car & Driver magazine in 1989.
Over the course of a week, the little things a car is missing begin to add up. With the civic motorsport, there is no satellite or HD radio and the sound emitted by its four loudspeakers is lousy at best. And when the spring rains fell, we suddenly realized how much we missed variable intermittent wipers; The sport only offers intermittent. True, you can buy a swanky civic sport touring, but not with a stick.
With the bar putting this up high with the civic motorsport, at least in terms of the way it jumps forward to slice through the next corner, our expectations for the upcoming civic Si and type R are very high. We hope that both will become sharper without driving rougher, as the sport is already on the firm side.

Prototypes for the new bourgeois type R have already been spotted. The engine in the Civic Type R is expected to be a turbocharger 2.0-liter four-cylinder with as much as 305 horsepower on tap. Regular bourgeois tailgates should come with the 158-PS 2.0-liter and 174-HP turbo 1.5-liter, four have already been in the civil saloon civic.
The Civic’s little 1.5-liter turbo-4 is rated at a solid 180 horsepower in sports thanks to a unique exhaust setup (174 hp otherwise). It connects wonderfully with the Snick-snick short-throw manual with its straight right clutch and it attracts more than almost anything else in this segment. All the time, the Civic returned darn close to 40 mpg on the freeway in our tests.

And another bonus on the stick: running premium fuel, it is rated at 177 pound-meter torque compared to 162 with the optional CVT.
With 22.6 cubic feet of cargo space (seats above;…), the bourgeois hatch is far more usable than the 15.1-cubic-foot-hull of the sedan. And at $960 more expensive (this is LX sedan against LX Luke, as there is no sports sedan), it is worth every penny.
Caveat: The Civic sport’s wide reserve tyre means that it has a juicy 3.1 cubic feet less cargo space than non-sports models.
